End Recession.

Been gone for awhile and with good reason. Got out of a lengthy relationship, moved, worked a whole lot, had some good times, got thrown by birthday festivities, etc. Oh and I haven't had internet hooked up at home yet. That's one of the biggest obstacles.

But now I'm going to Hawaii so it'll be a waiting game again.

Nazi Props.

The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum has a special exhibit titled, "State of Deception: The Power of Nazi Propaganda" currently on display in Washington D.C. I doubt I'll be in D.C. anytime soon so I'm really excited they have an online gallery.

State of Deception: The Power of Nazi Propaganda reveals how the Nazi Party used modern techniques as well as new technologies and carefully crafted messages to sway millions with its vision for a new Germany.

I've always been a fan of war-time propaganda. I saw a similar exhibit at the State Fair a few years back and snuck my camera in just to photograph the posters on display. I think they're the most powerful examples of direct advertising. The online gallery also includes a time line and themes of different propaganda approaches.

It was her birthday.

I sent Dorsey a package of Texas goodies so she knows she is missed. But this is what I made her.

Birfday Surprise.

My dear sweet Dorsey's birthday is this Saturday. I made her something special.

But I can't reveal it till she receives her package in the mail.

Arteries Beware.

Bacon. Sausage. BBQ Sauce. Heart attack in the making. Is this the future for barbecue-ers? Take two pounds of bacon, chop some up, weave in between two pounds of sausage, slather on bbq sauce and then wrap the remaining bacon around sausage. You just made yourself a Bacon Explosion. I think the name is appropriate because your heart is surely to explode after consuming such a thing. It contains at least 5,000 calories and 500 grams of fat. Oh my.

For a nation seeking unity, a recipe has swept the Internet that seems to unite conservatives and liberals, gun owners and foodies, carnivores and ... well, not vegetarians and health fanatics.
Certainly not the vegetarians and health fanatics.

Barob Duhon.

Obama is now an action figure. Complete with kotatsu, katanas, guns and light saber(?). I'm unsure of the details of where he came from but I'm kind of glad it did. Obama memorabilia is getting crazy. I figure his Star Wars name would be Barob Duhon if you kept to this Star Wars name game.

You can check out more pics on the manufacturer's site.

Open Letter to UO

Dear Urban Outfitters,

I've been broke and haven't bought anything from you in well over a year. I get your e-newsletter but usually delete it without looking because it reminds me of how low my funds are in the bank. Today I took a chance and opened it. Saw a shirt I liked so I went to your site. Then I was appalled by your models. They make me not want to buy anything from you. I shouldn't be able to see every vertebrate of someone's spine unless it is a child in a third world country. Please feed these girls double cheeseburgers.

Thanks,
.Tif

Oh cakes!

There is a lady in San Fransisco that makes cakes. All sorts of cakes! Purse cakes, car cakes, animal cakes, character cakes and best of all gigantic cupcakes!

I am completely amazed at the creativity and labor that goes into these cakes. Debbie has a Flickr account full of her cakes. But if you want one yourself your best bet is it hit up Debbie Does Cakes.

Inauguration Day

Will you remember where you were yesterday in twenty years? I'll remember being crowded around a computer monitor streaming the CNN+Facebook feed.

Unfortunately I took this photo before the swearing in so the crowding hadn't quite begun. By the end of Obama's speech there were about twenty of us watching that monitor.

And then we had cake!

New Year New You?

How I hate that phrase.

So I've been off the wagon. Life got busy. This year I have made lots of resolutions. Most focusing on creativity. I've never been one to make a resolution before so here's to hoping I can keep them all up. You'll know if I have been because I intend to update this more often and readily with said creativity.

2009 is the year of change. My, how that phrase has become annoying too. Nonetheless I'm welcoming it with open arms. I've already seen changes implemented and I like them. I feel relieved, energized, hopeful and excited.

Here's to more changes.

An Iconography of Contagion.

Above are samples of posters created during WWII era from the Public Health Service to warn troops of consequences that could derive from casual sex. Basically trying to scare those strapping soldiers from getting busy with prostitutes. The An Iconography of Contagion exibit features work from several countries on a variety of diseases like syphilis, malaria, tuberculosis and AIDS. The posters will be on display at the National Academy of Sciences in Washington from now until December 19th.

Much of the exhibition suggests a mash-up of advertising and public health. The posters tried to convey the danger of disease and get people to change their behavior, said the curator, Michael Sappol, a historian at the library of medicine, part of the National Institutes of Health.

But “they’re also about the pleasure of the image,” he continued, adding, “There have been some very sexy, colorful, playful posters about some very serious diseases.”

Obama to the left, McCain to the right

This will be in my head for the rest of the day.
